Reviews of Epic
EpicCare EMR helps us better care our patients
Comments: With EpicCare, clinics can streamline their workflows using personalized screens, dashboards and specialty applications. The application's finance module allows clinics to track payments, bills and invoices. EpicCare is a mobile-ready solution, allowing both doctors and patients to access information on their Apple devices.
Pros:
I love patient portal and e-prescribing features which helps us meet the Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements. The tool also supports telemedicine options that allow our doctors to communicate with patients via a video platform and offers mobile and tablet functionality. EpicCare MyChart allows patients to view medical information, message doctors, schedule appointments and manage medical history via a personalized portal.
Cons:
The health maintenance options could be better, and easier to see and mark as complete. Also out would be easier if when you marked something got a preference it wouldn't add a copy to the main menu. Upgrade to EPIC 2017 is a fight.
Alternatives Considered:
Great for Hipaa Compliance

Pros:
Epic offers a a huge variety of services.
Cons:
You have to have the latest up to date computers and wifi or you will have to consistently reset the pc
Easy to navigate and versatile
Pros:
I like the versatility of Epic and how many feature it has. I used it daily while working at the hospital and it was easy to navigate.
Cons:
It felt a bit analog and outdated when I used it, but it was still functional.
Epic Review
Comments: Epic does make healthcare tasks easier at times however it is often difficult to make changes.
Pros:
Epic allows me to communicate for e-prescriptions. Epic has a mobile app that comes in handy.
Cons:
Often hard to navigate throughout the system and can become costly
Highly reccommend
Comments: Overall, I feel EPIC is easy to navigate and user-friendly outside of external systems real time updates.
Pros:
I have used several versions of EPIC, and I feel the layout is weel thought out and organized. The system is user friendly as I have trained employees on the system, and they catch on fast.
Cons:
The system lags when connecting information to external systems like food and nutrition for example in regard to real time diet order updates.
Virtually no room for human error with billing and coding.
Comments: I self-taught with Epic. It's very user friendly.
Pros:
Epic makes it impossible to miss anything during the charge capture phase. There are fewer denials from payers/insurance companies and greater accuracy in capturing charges.
Cons:
I have nothing negative to say about epic care. I have had no need to use customer service so I'm unable to review that area.

Documentation is Easy with Epic!
Comments: Epic has been my favorite system to use out of all the others!
Pros:
Epic is very user friendly to all ages and makes documentation simple.
Cons:
Some features can be difficult to figure out but once you learn to navigate the site there are no problems!
The Epic Experience
Comments: I love that I can work for different hospitals that all use the Epic system. It makes for steamlined and easy referencing of information. Very modernized and user friendly compared to other outdated medical record platforms.
Pros:
Epic is extremely user friendly, allowing all medical records to be accessed on one place, in a format that is easy to read.
Cons:
Epic is a huge system with a lot of icons to learn to navigate, which takes a lot of time and practice.
Great for medical records
Comments: Great experience since we were able to scan all the documents into system for the doctors & staff
Pros:
Great for medical records since we were getting rid of paper filing
Cons:
Nothing really except the system became slow. Maybe because of the work/paper load.
Why epic is good
Pros:
How easy it is to use and to access what I need
Cons:
How some stuff doesnt match the stuff in immpact
Suboptimal at best
Comments: see above.
Pros:
Epic's main benefit is the large number of health systems that use it, which makes cross-communication possible. Epic does limit this by making it's product modular, which limits different institutions' ability to communicate. The only benefit to Epic is it's size and number of health systems that use it - so if you work at Hospital X, and move to Hospital Y, the chances that they also use Epic are higher than another software.
Cons:
This is not a "patient care" software by design. It is a billing software first and foremost. Instead of starting the software from scratch in the 2000's once it was appearent that EMR's were the wave of the future, they simply piggy-backed what they could (most pop-ups and messages are done by what was originally meant to be error messages for bills). From a patient care stand-point, it is terrible at best. Epic's goal is to cater to administrators, who ultimately choose which EMR options to buy. The latest updates and changes have made for a "cleaner" look while hiding most buttons and options under tabs, making finding different options more difficult. There is a learning curve, but as anyone who has used iOS knows, the interface could be exponentially better. Epic is reminiscent of the 1990's Microsoft Office products that came with every computer and the masses were forced to use it, even though it was subpar by 1990's standards. Epic's philosophy (while under [sensitive content hidden]) is that Epic can do no wrong. While this company is under [sensitive content hidden] (the [sensitive content hidden] of EMR), it will not get better. We need a [sensitive content hidden] of EMR - until then, patients and providers alike must suffer.
Unnecessary changes
Cons:
They are constantly making unnecessary changes to the system. It makes usage difficult because you have to hunt for what you are looking for. They change things that just add additional clicks with no actual benefit to the change. It is very frustrating to get used to where something is located and then find it suddenly not there or to find the whole process of getting to what you need has changed. For example my telehealth visits are now listed as office visits and then you have to make 10 additional clicks to make it a televisit and then on you schedule you have to click 10 more steps to make it show as a televisit on you screen so you know if they are coming in or if you are supposed to be calling them. This constant change is VERY aggravating and unnecessary.
Complete rubbish
Comments: Terrible- their customer service is also a joke. Reported a simple problem 5 times - took 5 hours and still not resolved
Pros:
Nothing is good about this system. Don't consider it
Cons:
Takes over 2 hours extra per day to fill in their unecessary forms.
Epic Review
Pros:
You can find everything about patients in one place
Cons:
Sometimes I can't know where to find tabs related to patients
Great EMR
Pros:
It’s it’s the standard of electronic medical records. It’s super user friendly and very easy to navigate and makes your work life much more efficient.
Cons:
That it is a little on the pricey side when it comes to private practice.
Easiest, most intuitive charting software I've used to date
Comments: Overall i am very happy with EPIC care, but i would like to see continued design improvements.
Pros:
The ease with which I can customize the charting features and interconnect outside patient info is key. Also, patient's love the connectedness of mychart and the messaging feature.
Cons:
EPIC still seems to be less user-friendly than non-EMR software. Consider social media or HubSpot. They all have workflows and usage features that are slightly more aesthetic and user friendly.
EPIC EMR User friend medical records system
Comments: In general epicure EMR patient health information medical record system is a great tool to integrate into large hospital systems. Especially for streamlined and easy to use integration of an medical record system. In addition because it has been used broadly by many large healthcare systems many people are trained on how to use epic and in addition they are able to translate their knowledge of other electronic medical record systems to the use of EpicCare system
Pros:
In general some of the pros about the software is that it is very easy to use and it is very accessible from anywhere as long as you have an account. In addition allows you to access your patients medical records from a secure browser and system from remote locations. In addition it’s very easy to explore specific patient information as needed for data purposes.
Cons:
The things that I like least about the software are that you do have to go through extensive training to be permitted to utilize the system. Although I do understand from the perspective of integration of patient health information it’s very important that users are knowledgeable on how to properly use the system.
The BEST EMR out there
Comments: Having used another EMR (in addition to paper charting), this is by far the best product out there. Navigating different clinical unit censuses and consult lists is simple (and you can customize what information is listed within these lists). Within the medical record, tabs make it easy to navigate between lab results, demographic information, and chart notes. It is quick and easy to do a chart review and, in fact, Epic denotes which notes are new since your last review of a patient's chart, so you don't have to spend time looking for new information. Flowsheets, templates, and free-text options make it easy to format information in the way that is appropriate for you or your department's practice. Flowsheets can also be tied to a particular note (and can be easily imported) so that you can see both from one screen. SmartTexts can also be created for phrases or data you use frequently so that you can utilize a shortcut rather than typing those things repeatedly. Reports can easily be created to pull data from patient lists and Epic does a great job customizing layouts that are best for your particular organization.
Pros:
Best layout, easy to navigate, quick documentation
Cons:
Epic is consistently working on new functionalities and layouts, and sometimes the implementation of new things with the EMR becomes laborious to relearn when there is little added benefit.
Epic review
Comments: Overall- I think it helps me deliver safe care to my patients. This platform allows me to accurately chart and organize my day to best serve the population in my hospital.
Pros:
It allows for safe medication administration- links the drug info. right there with the medication and allows for user friendly charting. Plenty of flowsheets to chose from. Information that isn't helpful can be completed or hidden. Integrates with our devices to pull in vital signs and information about the patient. Also allows for communication between the interdisciplinary team connecting each other through messaging and allowing for contact information. There are a few ways to get to the same spot and I find the navigators are helpful.
Cons:
Some charting/flowsheets are a bit redundant. Also, sometimes when flowsheets or sections of charting are hidden- it can be hard to find specifically where to reactivate it. I think it takes a while to get the right custom EPIC for your institution in place so there are tons of upgrades and learning curves with new versions.
All patient info in one place!
Comments: Epic has been a lovely product to use and makes my day-to-day job much easier than if I had to go through paper records. It is an efficient product and helps me get the patient info I need quickly and securely.
Pros:
Epic is a secure way to access information from a patient's chart, whether that patient is currently admitted at the hospital or has previously been treated at your facility. The search within a specific patient's chart is robust and smart, populating results that may be related to the keyword you searched. Epic also allows you to access documents related to a patient from an outside hospital/institution. Epic's security features protect patient privacy from all ends.
Cons:
Running Epic requires some setup, namely downloading a receiver to access the application. This additional step is not particularly difficult but does slow down the process of getting to Epic. I wish there was a desktop option for easy access to Epic.
EpicCare EMR
Comments: I have had an overall good experience with this software. I am looking forward to how it evolves with AI built into the EMR.
Pros:
I have been using this software for about 3 years. The software is very intuitive to use most of the time. The menus are clean and fairly easy to navigate. The ability to have the whole patient history right in front of your fingertips is a big plus in 2021. The software is one of best on the market for EMR in 2021.There are no major glitches or bugs that I have encountered using this product over the past three years.
Cons:
I feel the help menu does need some improving at this time. When the software updates things are changed and moved around alot on the menus. I feel there room for improvement on the help menus.I wish there was a live chat feature embedded in the software with customer support.
Everyday user
Comments: I use it daily for my job duties. It's great that we are moving away from paper to everything being electronic and all in one place. So many providers use EPIC so it's a place that you can get more information on a patient and collaborate to make sure your patient's health care needs are being met.
Pros:
There are so many features built into EPIC that are very helpful for everyday use as a Social Worker. I use multiple features in EPIC such as charting notes, secure chats with providers, assessments, LPOC, chart review, appointment reminders and so much more. It's great that you can kind of built your layout how you want it by switching the toolbar to display mostly used items.
Cons:
It's always updating and changing which can get a little frustrating when you are a newer user.
The Gold Standard of EMR
Comments: It makes clinical care and documentation so much easier, the billers/coders love it, and I can access outside patient records from other institutions that use Epic, so I know I'm not missing anything. Every hospital in the country needs to implement Epic.
Pros:
The ease of use is perhaps number one for Epic. Having used some of the older EMRs, I am well aware of how an EMR can make or break your day. Epic is the best EMR I have used, and perhaps the best one out there. Its ease of use is second to none, and it's extremely intuitive (so even without a training course, which you're likely get anyway, you can pick up how to use this EMR in perhaps a few hours). The shortcuts that are already built in are great, and you can personalize this EMR to best suit your tastes. I know from a billing standpoint, Epic makes it a breeze, but as a daily user of this software I can guarantee you that the physician staff will appreciate Epic as well. Simply stated, this is the EMR of the future (and present), and the CareEverywhere feature makes continuity of care amazing, and the ability to access outside records makes clinical care a breeze. Epic is the known gold standard for a reason.
Cons:
Compared to other EMRS, I can't think of anything negative to say.
