Fair overview of Dundas BI
Comments: It helps us during times for taking decisions since we embark on data-driven actions.
Pros:
I really love the enhanced security features of Dunda BI. I can easily set up authentication for my users and choose who can have access to either view or edit.
Cons:
Dundas BI is a great tool but sometimes I find it too overwhelming because it has a lot of advanced features that other Business Intelligence tools do not have and that leads to a high learning curve
Powerfully Intuitive: A Review of Dundas BI
Comments: Overall, Dundas BI is an excellent choice for businesses looking for an intuitive and feature-rich business intelligence platform. It is highly customizable and easy to use, making it a great option for businesses of any size.
Pros:
Dundas BI is incredibly user-friendly and provides a wide range of features to help you easily create powerful dashboards and reports.
Cons:
While the dashboard customization options are plentiful, the data visualization tools are somewhat limited and can be difficult to use.
Good product to integrate Ad Hoc Reporting into SaaS software
Comments: I think the general help and assistance from Exago has been good so far, we are kept up to date with version releases and we have a regualr dialogue with their team which is good to see.
Pros:
We reviewed a selection of tools on the market and we felt the Exago was the product best fit our needs based on cost and functionality. We implemented Exago as a reporting tool for our customers to run real time reports and have graphical dashboards on their home screens as a kind of snapshot summary. Exago gives you the ability to create a suite of reports ready for customers to use and export in range of formats. You can also give customers express reporting so that they can tailor their own reports however this isn't something we have done just yet but will look to do so in the future. Were overall satidfied with the product and were looking forward to working with Exago in recommending further features and improvements.
Cons:
The dashboards take an incredibly long time to load and there doesn't seem to be a simple solution for fixing this just yet. Improved Map reporting would be a great addition, a number of our clients wish to view data on maps and this seems to be very limited at the moment. The UI of the dropdown filter boxes could be improved and it would be good if you could return back to your filter options after running a report if you wish to amend rather than having to run another report.
Alternatives Considered:
Developer-Grade Analytics Toolkit
Comments: We have authored a reporting and dashboard solution composed of 350+ reports/dashboards, and deployed that solution to clients across the U.S. and Australia. Our application is updated automatically every evening (thanks to the ease of distributing the code generated in Logi), so our clients always have the LATEST version of our solution available. We have deployed Logi servers on-premise, in the cloud (AWS and Azure), and used it to access both SQL and REST data sources.
Pros:
Tremendous flexibility and control of the "user-experience" for the solution that you develop with Logi. Can access data from a huge variety of datasources, both traditional and emerging big data and cloud. Visual development interface which creates underlying text-based code, which allows easy manipulation both for development as well as 'mass-change' editing. Text-based code is small in size and easy to distribute to remote sites for a distributed solution if required. Obfuscation of the code protects your intellectual property in the case of a commercial deployment. Developer-grade debugging capabilities greatly assist in isolating issues for quick remediation.
Cons:
Logi offers a broad range of solutions, and sometimes it can be confusing to know if new features/capabilities are available for your use under your current licenses.
Alternatives Considered:
Exago - Great for SaaS products
Pros:
• Includes Report Building capabilities that can be utilised by the client. • All report building is completed within the browser – no downloads required. • Includes Dashboards. • Includes ability for clients to build dashboards within the browser. • Strong permissions structure, that means you can explicitly say which users can see what. • No data access layer – this is entirely managed within the client, which means no replication of login data. • Reports are built based on a ‘model’, built from our database • Includes software upgrades – easy to implement • Support provided via telephone or Zen Desk • Report Building capabilities – can replicate current functionality. • Option to download a trial version of the software. • No SQL Licence required. • If we end the licence, we have 12 months grace to transfer to another solution.
Cons:
• Support Hours – These are 8am – 6pm EST (We are a UK-based business) • Costs – cheaper than Reporting Services with BI, but much more expensive than Telerik, Synchfusion and similar. • Server / hardware requirements
Alternatives Considered:
Powerful tool with higher overhead
Comments: Dundas is a fantastic company that really seems to care about their product and their customers.
Pros:
The tool can do anything you want. I don't think I've gotten one "no" since I started asking about capabilities.
Cons:
The time needed to implement some features is high. And if you need to make changes to it later, you typically have to re-do a decent number of steps in the middle of the process (not on the dashboards, but in the data cubes that underlie them).
One of the best Mid tier BI solution for your business analytics
Comments: Have always been a reliable solution to understand our business trends.
Pros:
Easy to implement and great featured added on every patches.
Cons:
Always been a great software meeting our organizational needs
Alternatives Considered:
Flexible BI solution
Pros:
Super flexible Very good data preparation features Dashboard functionality You can do everything related to BI and analytics in Dundas, because of the flexible architecture
Cons:
Working with large tables (as a data visualization) can be a little bit of a pain The report designer seems a little outdated and is not very user friendly to use
Alternatives Considered:
Great Value, Strong Feature Set
Pros:
Built in time period over period analysis, built in correlation matrices, ability to auto export data in various forms to excel, pdf, or other formats.
Cons:
There is no "undo" button on some pages, which makes error recovery more difficult. However, the company has already indicated they are working on a fix for this.
Alternatives Considered:
Easiest embbeded BI application to use and integrate out there
Pros:
The ease of use of the ExpressViews for our less tech-savvy users
Cons:
It is missing some features when it comes to parameter selections for a report, like multi selection in a parameter.
Impressive BI platform is provided by Dundlas BI.
Pros:
More than 80 different data sources are accessible to me! Dundlas BI is simply amazing. a fantastic, feature-rich business intelligence tool. Both Tableau and Dundlas BI have been used by me. But to be completely honest, I think Dundlas BI is much easier to use. Any organisation looking for a BI tool should use this, in my opinion.
Cons:
The only shortcoming of Dundlas BI is that it cannot create customised infographics as quickly as Tableau. In addition, Dundlas BI holds up well against other BI tools that are currently available.
A steep learning curve, with great reward at the end of it.
Pros:
Dundas is a conglomeration of expertly coded dashboard development tools and infrastructures. The thing I like most about Dundas is that they are very helpful, the gentleman assigned to me to educate me in the ways of Dundas, was one I will never forget to this day, he was calm, helpful, understanding and with his help I learned Dundas in no time. I like the way Dundas structure's its Dashboard development, it starts with virtual tables, where the programmer can manually or automatically generate SQL queries, these queries are then used for the basis of adding statistical flavour to the Dashboard, the way this is done is very straight forward. Dundas has a steep unforgiving learning curve, but when you master the fundamentals, the sky really is the limit. Also their support service is world class, the representatives will assist you in any way they can, they will help you understand what the issue you are facing is and provide a resolution. If they cant help you via email, they will 'WebEx' you, i.e skype call with 2 way screen control. Everything in Dundas is customizable, charts, graphs and other statistical data can be glossed up and made to look as simple or as plush as the user envisions. You can add formulae, trend analysis and other key statistical methods are employed by Dundas. They have charts for Finance, Risk analysis and other key statistical methodologies. All of these charts can be jazzed up with scripts so that you can Drill down and filter through the data you want in order to get the right Business Intelligence feel to your work. Dundas supports the Data Cube, It supports Microsoft, Oracle, MySQL, EXCEL, it has export capabilities onto Excel, so those clients which prefer their data in Spreadsheets can manually export directly from the dashboard. Everything in Dundas is designed to give you the most professional feel possible at all times!
Cons:
Dundas, for the good of it's users needs to publish more comprehensive educational equipment to train it's users, it is very hard to get to an expert level in Dundas without some help from your Friends in Dundas. I would love to see Dundas publish university style lectures, with step by step guides that show every aspect of the working sphere. With adequate educational material, one would be able to gain adept or even artisan status with the Tool on their own.
Exago works for SaaS companies looking to integrate Ad Hoc Reporting
Comments: Our experience has been uniformly positive, from sales, to implementation, to ongoing support.
Pros:
We implemented Exago as an Ad Hoc Reporting tool for our customers, to go beyond the built-in reports we already provide. Exago gives them the flexibility to build their own quick ("Express") reports, create advanced and highly formatted reports, create dashboards, charts, and pivots, and to schedule reports to be automatically generated and mailed to a specified group of people. It was straightforward to integrate it with our platform, give customers a filtered view of just their own data, and customize the product for our specific needs. We evaluated a number of competing products and Exago was the winner for features, integration, and pricing.
Cons:
Many of the products in this category are true Business Intelligence platforms, designed to be used by professionals in large corporate or organizational settings. But our customers are regular people, often volunteers, without professional training in complex software. The help is generally good and there are lots of video tutorials. But it would be nice if Exago had more wizards to step users through setting up a more complex report.
Powerful Out-of-box Solution
Pros:
Can get up and running quickly thanks to the Logi framework.
Cons:
Not very customizable in terms of data visualization or integrating other themes and libraries.
Powerful, High-quality Reporting Solution that is Designed for the End User
Comments:
Three years ago, we set out to find a reporting solution that could replace SQL Server Reporting Services. We had a long list of requirements, among them:
• A Web Based Report Designer
• Easy to Create Basic Reports with Little to No Training
• Advanced Functionality that would Satisfy our Advanced Users
• Licensing that working with an onsite and SaaS deployment model
• A Clean Modern Looking User Interface
• Ability to White Label
• Ability to Secure the Scope of the Accessible Tables and Data
• Ability to Integrate with our Security Model and Dynamic Table Relationships
• Ability to have a Distributed Execution Model for our SaaS solution that Maintained Data Isolation and Security
Exago and one other reporting solution were short listed and went into an evaluation phase. During this 2-month process, we did POC integrations, tested the performance of the solution, security, APIs, and called on technical support. We found that Exago was faster to implement and easier to use. In one of our tests, we sent out a link to both products and asked all our employees to create a report within both products, without any training on either. We found that everyone created a report in Exago, but we had a high percentage of people that could not in the competing product. Additionally, the reports made in Exago we generally built with more complexity in them, due to the ease of use. Their support was extremely responsive. So much so, that we thought that it may just be because we were in the sales cycle. I am happy to say, that is not the case. Exago is just very customer focused and has a knowledgeable support staff that is always looking out for the client.
Pros:
• Ease of Use • Flexibility of Product • Performance • Data Security • Ease of Implementation • Product Support • Commitment to Security • Pricing Model • Commitment to Client Success from the Top Down
Cons:
Error Messages when using it in a Distributed Model can be a Challenge • Brought up on last support call and they have committed to improving
Great embedded BI solution
Comments: Integrating izenda 7 series has giving our product the ability to the end user to create and administer dashboards and ad hoc reporting, ultimately giving the end user better insight into their data without having to contact us for base report modifications. We essentially needed a BI tool, and this fit the bill!
Pros:
I really like their flexible architecture. They have many integration and stand alone modes that fits all scenarios. The technology stack aligns quite well with ours - so that was a plus. The visualizations and ad hoc reporting capabilities are great. The simple licensing model is a must, and very good customer support.
Cons:
The documentation on integration for both series 6 and 7 is a bit lacking - although I have seen a great push on getting it updated, its had to get any fine details. Due to this it has taken a long time for us to embed the solution properly. Although series 7 has many advantages, it is also lacking in certain areas compared to series 6. Having no export of the reports makes it hard to mange tractability with source control. 7 series is still quite immature with a lot of bugs. Performance is always a concern.

Izenda Embedded BI - gives true Ad-Hoc reporting to your user base.
Comments: As a provider of bespoke software solutions I first started to look at Izenda about 7 years ago as a means to provide true Ad-Hoc reporting and to get away from having to develop reports in SSRS. Izenda gives the power of report creation and management back to the user base and will free your IT staff from having to create custom or numerous versions of reports for your clients. You can create a core base set of reports that best suite your solution and let your clients develop / expand them further. I like that it has a lot of base functionality but can also be "customized" to bend to all sorts of requirements and needs. Over the years I have seen quite a few and some of these have then been added back into the product. Not many Vendors would allow that or be so flexible.
Pros:
Izenda allows seamless white label integration for non-technical users but also allows technical users to customize all areas to provide a powerful solution that matches their core solution. It pushes the reporting burden away from IT and into the hands of the user and allows for complex reporting in a simple to use UI experience.
Cons:
The documentation whilst getting better still needs to be kept more up to date
Great ad hoc reporting engine
Comments: From my perspective as a software developer who integrated Exago's software into our own, they provide many flexible features that allow you to customize the product depending on your own needs. For example, Exago provides several interfaces that allow us to manage our customer created data, where we store the reports and schedules created by our customers in our own database tables. They also provide other extensibility features, like server events that allow you to add custom code for specific events during a report execution. We have used the api to "publish" reports for use in other parts of our application, as well as replace legacy asp reports in our application with reports created in Exago. This has helped us tremendously in standardizing reports across our application in terms of the terminology used as well as the data that is returned. Now when our customers try to compare results from various reports across our application, there is much more consistency.
Pros:
We integrated Exago software as an ad hoc reporting engine for our customers. It allowed us to expose our data model to our customers and provide for them a way to create their own reports. Some of the features that we benefited from, which we did not have in our legacy solution were the ability to create custom formulas in a report and also the ability to schedule a report.
Cons:
Our data model is very large and we would like to see some future improvements on how the designer handles all of the field lists so that the designer could be more responsive.
Exago has brought a feature rich business intelligent support solution for our company's native management systems.
Comments: We have over the last year applied Exago's API and user architecture to great advantage in creating effective solutions for measuring our performance as a group and for individual workers. Though some what difficult to access , Exago's customer support has proved valuable for our company in developing applications for our native management and ad reporting performance systems. We would advise in order to insure a proper fit for your company's management software to engage with Exago's customer service a full interview in order qualify their API and development architecture as a proper fit for your company. Once that cycle and analysis is complete and the necessity for future IT cycles is reduced, we can say Exago is highly recommended.
Pros:
Exago features highly adaptable and easily integrated API. We believe the 1 year and renewable purchase licensing fees are competitive and affordable. We can , for one single year auto renewable purchase price, make applications for our systems that will apply to multiple servers.
Cons:
Exago reports that IT is unnecessary after development and integration . We have not found this to necessarily to be true. We believe Exago's customer service resources are a challenge to access.
Exago is the real deal
Comments: We have been using Exago for a few years now as an integrated part of our product - and it's a solid reporting tool. I have years of experience working with Crystal, and SSRS, Telerik... and hands down, this is a much more pleasant environment to build reports in! The UI is fantastic, the features are solid, and it is obvious that Exago cares about it's customers, providing outstanding support, training, and staying with us every step of the way. They have consistently delivered a solid reporting experience for our users, and are continuously improving the product as well, providing value as time moves on. A class act, any way you look at it.
Pros:
Express design view makes drag/drop reports a reality. Web-based report designer Extendable to meet complex reporting needs Integration options for making Exago a seamless part of the product Great training sessions for admins and End users Outstanding support
Cons:
Grouping could be improved Missing ability to define variables without using custom functions Cross tab reports can be daunting for new users
Alternatives Considered:
Easy to customize and user friendly GUI
Comments: Overall I definitely would like to recommend Dundas BI as a BI tool for organization. within a sort time of period you can easily create your own reports or dashboard.
Pros:
Dundas BI easy to customize and very friendly GUI. you can easily navigate to ETL process, Scheduling job, admin activity, configuration, user security and roles. Most important thing is very well visualization options, flexibility, stability and multi tenancy licenses. Customer Support is really very good.
Cons:
Required better folder structure to manage data cubes, matric Set and dashboard.
Nice Feature Set, Some Learning Curve
Pros:
Rich visualizations; tons of choices for visualizations with almost limitless customization; cube-builder platform is a very convenient environment for ETL - accommodates newbies with graphical tools and coders with convenient SQL, C#, and Python interfaces; state notifications are convenient and intuitive; good security.
Cons:
Fairly tough to learn this platform - not always intuitive - hard to do simple things sometimes; limited (statistical) analysis toolset - no ML, though Python integrates nicely and has some application. v6.0 was a good step forward. Most customer support technicians are outstanding. Very skilled, knowledgeable, helpful. Other times, you have to bounce emails back and forth for a week before getting meaningful answers to your questions.
Exago tool is great
Comments: Overall great experience with Exago's tool. The staff is patient and very helpful. Sometimes the logic gets complex quickly and not always able to get what we want easily. We are dependent on our integration choices we made back in 2008 so we have been not able to use some of the newer functions. The recommendation is to keep up to date as much as you can or you'll fall behind. Email reports to users is a great feature. We support 100's of users and clients around the world.
Pros:
- Ease of Use - Customer Support - Reporting Options - always looking to improve the product - Love the output options, dashboards, graphs, drill-down reports, cross tab.
Cons:
- sometimes complex logic - most of the time our data does not match northwind model so samples are hard to turn into relevant business cases. - Integration is sometimes tricky and mostly with our dev team.
Powerful BI and Reporting Tool
Pros:
Exago has many features that showcase our data into meaningful visualizations and analytics for our clients. We use Exago for both standard reports in our product and custom reports. We've found Exago to be a robust reporting tool that meets the needs of both our company and our clients.
Cons:
There are a few features that could be more user intuitive when creating custom reports and filtering. However, we have found Exago's customer support to be responsive and their documentation is extensive.
Best Value and Functionality for Embedded BI
Pros:
This is certainly the best value for all of the functionality you get, compared to other products in this space. Also, there isn't much that can't be done with a little code, and it is very easy to use from the end user perspective after it is set up. I would also like to mention that their support is extremely responsive and very competent. The end users and management love Exago here.
Cons:
While there aren't many things not to like, the one thing that I would like to see, would be some generic out-of-the-box frontend that wraps the functionality to build off of. While they provide a page to create reports and one for administration, it would be nice to have something a little more robust.
